Hey jbenisz, the only thing I can think of is for you to clean your computer. If you do not already have, get ccleaner and clean registry, take off anything on your computer that you do not use and then run cleaner and restart your computer. This happened to me when I first tried to use unity and I haven't had a problem since. Hope this works.

Yep, been meaning to post. I have Vista on GoogleChrome and my viewer went down about a week ago.
I get the same 'download' message and it doesn't matter if you do.

Google may have implimented the kill-off of add-ons, etc.

Chrome ended support for NPAPI plugins around the 1st of September. Unity is among those affected applications. End result is no more 3D viewer on Chrome.  Mike gave some background on this in April  at http://derbyfever.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14820

Same set up I use with no issues.  Here's some things to check:

First,  download and re-install Unity player with Firefox CLOSED.  If already done,  or after:

Open Firefox,  in the upper right hand corner is an icon with three horizontal bars (Open menu) - click and then click "add ons" - in new window (Add-ons Manager) make sure Unity Player is in list - and on right that it reads "always activate"

Close Add-ons Manager window

Click "Open menu" again  -  click on "Options"
In new window,  on left side click "Advanced"
Look for "Cached Web Content" -  Your web content cache is currently using " ? " bytes of disk space

On right click "Clear Now" - here's the tricky part - see what the # of bytes changes to -  if still using disk space,  click  "Clear Now"  HOLDING  DOWN THE MOUSE BUTTON FOR 15 seconds -  if still using disk space,  repeat until it gets down to zero.  This is what I had to do to totally clear my cache.

If you are using the "No Script" feature in Firefox,  make sure that the Derby Fever web site address is in the "allowed list"'  In Firefox in the upper right is a "S" in a circle - this is the NoScript menu - click the "S" then click Options.
Should open on the "Whitelist"  tab - (on  top just under "No Script Options") - if not click on "Whitelist" tab.

Make sure derbyfever, com is in the list - if not,  add it ( type in derbyfever.com and click "Allow".

Close and restart Firefox.

Go to Derby Fever and try to watch a race.  If still not working,  let us know what happens (if anything) and we'll see what else we can do.

Good luck,  bud.

Maybe try going to that old place we used to play at (your old login/password should still work) and see if you can watch one of their recent races (they use Unity also) -  could help with problem isolation,  or not.  Sorry you're having problems, could be a number of things.

"how can I check that Derby Fever.com is enabled in Firefox"

Do Step 2 above - if you see Unity player it should be enabled. Now try this - on top there are two rectangles  -  one small one looks like a gear with a down arrow  - click  - then click "Debug add-ons"   - may find something to fix

Do you have same problem on multiple machines ?

I'm fine on Safari.

Do you have auto updates turned off? Maybe they did an update and it kicked off unity.
Have you tried to re-install unity?

Try right-click on Safari icon (or in Program Files-Safari)). Click 'restore previous versions'.

Mine is still from Feb. 2nd 2018.

If there are no previous versions, then it's back to the drawing board for another solution.

Sunfish, I have the same problem. The latest Safari update does not support NPAPI which is what Unity player is.    There can't be many web browsers that support it now.

I guess the answer is to keep a separate older version Safari just to run the viewer ?

Besides most web browsers no longer supporting Unity Webplayer, Unity itself no longer supports the Webplayer. It seems to me like Mike (or whoever does the graphics on this site now) needs to create a new 3-D viewer. It didn't take too long to do originally. The original 2-D viewer is OK, but it's a bit boring after we've got used to the 3-D viewer.

Unfortunately, Maxthon apparently decided to stop supporting the Unity Web Player, too.

For me, this happened RIGHT AFTER Mike put the Maxthon link on the game's front page.

The good news?

It works fine on older Maxthon versions.

Remove your current version if you have one, and...

Go

http://www.oldversion.com/windows/maxthon/ - Here

Download Version 4.03 and install.

Because it's an old version, I would suggest using it ONLY for this site, and not ever checking for new versions...

My lightweight browser of choice for many years has been K-Meleon (for M$Windows only) -- open source and based on the Gecko/Firefox engine -- and the latest portable version (no install required) works just fine with Unity for the 3D viewer (update July 2019 -- confirmed working on XP thru Win10) -- and there's no automatic viewer-breaking upgrades to worry about !!

Get it https://my.powerfolder.com/dl/fiETUtTcytcvWs2sNCrugjwC/K-Meleon76_Pro_RC.7z - HERE   or mirror at my site http://denovo.we.bs/sim/K-Meleon76Pro_RC.7z - KMPro76.7z

You will need to install (opensource & free) 7-Zip to unzip the package -- link for this is at the foot of my homepage (see links below).

Otherwise, earlier versions of Maxthon or Safari will still work fine (get them at oldversion.com) , as long as you suppress them from trying to update themselves.

In all these cases, if you are uncomfortable about running them, just use them to watch races and nothing else -- no probs then, eh ?

What download page does it take you back to ?

[I presume you have installed the Unity Web Player you downloaded as per #1 -- by clicking on and running the downloaded file ?]

Once Unity Web Player is installed, after clicking on a 3D raceview icon, you should see the Unity name and logo on a white background, then the black line underneath the name and logo go solid, then the Derbyfever graphic as the race data downloads, then the race start page.

Post some screenshots if you can, if you are still having problems.

=================
Oh -- what browser are you using ?  Current versions of Firefox, Chrome, M$ Edge, etc will not run the viewer, but the following will --

http://denovo.we.bs/sim/K-Meleon76Pro_RC.7z - K-Meleon_76_Pro    <<< my recommendation (portable version -- no installation, just run from a folder) -- works on all Win from XP to Win 10.
-- You will need to install (opensource & free) 7-Zip to unzip the package -- link for this is at the foot of my homepage http://denovo.co.nf - denovo.co.nf

Other options are

http://www.oldversion.com/windows/safari-5-1-7 - Safari-5-1-7_for_Windows

http://www.oldversion.com/windows/maxthon-cloud-browser-4-0-3-3000-rc - Maxthon-4-0-3 (switch off auto-updates)

https://www.seamonkey-project.org/ - SeaMonkey also works,

as also should https://www.waterfox.net/ - Waterfox , https://www.basilisk-browser.org/ - Basilisk , and https://www.palemoon.org/ - Pale Moon .

I noticed today while trying to view races that Unity isn't working again. I'm still using Safari 5.1.7. Also, I tried using the link for the old server again and that's no longer working.

Thanks jubalrutledge, but I use a winvista desktop and a win10 laptop, both with browsers that support NPAPI plugins for this site. Since it doesn't work on either system or the 2 different browsers that support Unity, I'm sure the problem is on the server side.

There is no problem at the server -- the viewer is working here for me -- but the fact that it has ceased working for you on two different systems is curious.

What error message(s) are you getting?

Hey Denovo. Here's the message I get "Unity content may not be played correctly. Make sure you are using a compatible browser with JavaScript enabled." JavaScript is enabled in both along with the plugin.

That's also interesting, as I just tried the old server login [http://208.109.207.1 99/] here and it still works for me, and serves up 3D race-watching.

Can't find any help from that error message -- at what stage in trying to watch a 3D race do you get it come up ?

Could you try your laptop in another location (different router) as a test ?

A system restore might be worth a try too, although the fact it is affecting 2 different systems makes me doubt whether that would make any difference. Router reboot might also be worth a try, according to a recent post from jubalrutledge.

There is also a log file written when you run the webplayer which might be worth a look at if the above suggestions don't have any affect. On my machine (XP) the plugin data (from the browser) gives the plugin path as

C:\Documents and Settings\PC\Local Settings\Application Data\Unity\WebPlayer\loader\npUnity3D32.dll

and my log files get written to the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\PC\Local Settings\Temp\UnityWebPlayer\log\

Your filepath will differ, but you should be able to locate the logs from that (open in a text editor). Might give some clues.

Well, I didn't do anything with the laptop and Unity on Safari started working again. On my desktop, I completely removed Unity and re-installed it and now it's working again.

Unity Player 5.3.8. Uninstall Unity. Use a browser that supports the plug in. Try to view a race and it will ask you to download and install Unity. Click to download and then run the file. It gives you the correct version of Unity for the race viewer. No need to download from Unity site.

Yeah, mine too. It works maybe once a week without doing anything to it. And that's on 2 different machines with completely different set-ups.

I have been unable to watch the races on Unity for a couple of days. The race appears to partially load and stops. I have tried this on 2 computers and Safari and Maxthon browsers with the same result.

I messaged Mike about the viewer being down earlier. I know he was working on the server yesterday , its probably got something to do with it. I haven't received a reply from said earlier message.

Hey guys -- I have never had a problem with 3D race-watching until now. I do normally watch my races on 2D as a matter of course, but I've never before had a problem viewing 3D races when I wanted to.

However, I am investigating now and find there does appear to be a problem with the racefiles downloading since Monday last. For instance, My New York races seem to work fine up to and including last Wednesday, whereas California races stop working from Monday onward, and no races will download from last Thursday onward.

Go back to last week's races and I think you'll find the races will view fine -- perhaps you guys can check this out for yourselves and report back here?

This will mean it's NOT a browser or viewer program problem, but a racefile problem -- and maybe Mike will be able to look at this -- I will be writing to him soon and sending him some screenshots and Unity log files.

Here's a selection of results -- all of these appear to work/not work repeatably, it's not sporadic, though where the racefile load quits partway, the length of the 'progress' bar can be different per try, even for the same race.

I started out testing a bit by track & date, then migrated to changing the raceid number, but can't seem to find any pattern or cut off especially yet. HOT races seem differently affected from normal races.

Loads & runs OK

I checked out another horse racing site (don't want to advertise it on here) that uses unity viewer and you don't need to download anything.
You just click on "watch race" and it works fine.
good quality as well so I don't know how much more it would cost Mike to get that on here.

Probability is it doesn't use the old webplayer version that ours does then, I would think.

Wonder if Stuck on Cards had anything to do with it. He raced on Tuesday and Thursday, becoming a book-end to the Wednesday problem date.  470 races could really mess up the data base

Denovo have you let Mike know that since he switched servers we have not been able to bring up the 3D viewer . He said he thought it was dead but the only prob. is his new servers are not sending the race files. Unity is downloading fine then it stops waiting on the race files , This happened before and he did something to the servers and it worked again? This is not the same old prob. with Unity

Yeah Mike knows, i pointed out as much in a message I sent when the viewer went down again.

When i read the reply in that blog message " http://hearusplay.com/loginforum.asp?TID=17373 - BTB, Viewer, Chat, Jocks, and stuff! " it is clear the viewer is not a priority sadly. Which is a shame because the sim without the 3d viewer is pretty dull stuff.
