The last year and a half I have been very active in the music scene. I became a mentor for a refugee from Syria, who came to Sweden at the end of 2015. He turned out to be a metal drummer (and since I also play the drums I was headhunted to help him get into our community). Anyways, he took over the drumming in my band, Bleak Summit, while I picked up the guitar.

Him and me also started playing with other people and also started a new project, called https://www.facebook.com/nardegaist/ - Nårdegaist . Last year we went into the studio and recorded our first song called https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76T3wfpMdy8 - 1361 . Now we are in the studio recording our debut album.

During last year I also became a bassist of his syrian band, https://www.facebook.com/Karaj.Adeem/ - Karaj Adeem , which was started 8 years ago in Syria and is kept alive by my friend and the band leader (also a refugee in Sweden). Last year we had 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xPTVKbzgHc - gigs in my home town as a trio. Now we are 4 and I'm playing the guitar.

How many here are playing in a band or two? I'm interested to know what this community is like music wise.

Best drummers ever to me. Jonn Bonham

A man that respected his art and craft, but knew his place in the song!

If you listen to any of the greatest Zepp songs, you can litteraly hear his sound.

Buddy Rich was just an absolute freak to me.

DK, is that you?WOW I loved it bud. holy cow. Man that was good.

Long time guitarist.  Played in a classic rock band for about 30 years (though the last 3 or 4 have been real slow as my band mates have become more interested in grandfatherhood.

Played 2+ years in a doo wop group (into 2014).  Do a yearly blues show celebrating a local guitar hero/composer (7th year upcoming in July).  Gigged with a garage band and a country/rock group last year.  For the last 18 months been working with a sax player and drummer on a jazz duo/trio thing ( a few gigs ).  Also do a jazz quintet with the same sax player and others (gigs upcoming).

Here's a video from 2007 of the classic rock group (almost exactly 10 years ago). It was at end of a very long night. (It's all I got).

Hey guys !! I'm a sax player (mainly).  Go back 5 years or so and I was gigging 5 nights a week in different residencies, improvising with various singer/guitarists.  Nowadays it has wound down rather and I do the occasional such duo gig plus a few in an 8-pc function band, but mainly do live sound mixing at a local venue. My main love is improvising in a jazz-ish/rock-ish non-vocal environment, but you don't get many of that sort of gig !!  Have loads of midi recording gear lying around which doesn't get much attention paid to it these days either, what with all the time at the SIM !!!

Nice to hear there are some other musos out there :)

Not many gigs indeed - but it is such a blast whenever you get a chance to improvise.

Sabbath -- I had a listen to the sample song on youtube -- thanks for linking :)

I have to admit that until I had do sound-mixing for a 3-day festival of black/death metal 3 years ago I had trouble relating to the genre -- mainly due to the vocal style, I think -- but after that gig I kinda developed an affection for everything it encompasses !! Certainly the instrumental musicianship was almost always excellent.

In this spirit, I enjoyed your sample track -- I only listened on fairly small speakers but the production seems top-notch -- and I also like the way the Nårdegaist name is presented on the album cover -- this sort of semi-palindromic graphic also appears part of the genre :)

Hope it does well for you :)

Hey Valesa, what country?

My family fled Romania in the 80s. My parents fled when I was 4 through immigrant camps in Turkey and Italy. They came to the US legally, they were sponsored by a church but it took a while until they obtained that sponsorship. I didn't see them again until I was 7 when I came here. My heart really goes out to refugees.

Here's a picture of me arriving at JFK airport. I didn't recognize my mom so the gentleman in blue who escorted me from the plane, was checking her paperwork to make sure she really was my mom.

It takes some effort to getting into all kind of extreme music. I listened to the extreme ones in the first half of the 80's, but then I got lost in the non-extreme scene. It wasn't until the mid 90's I started to get into it again, and even though I had once been on the dark side it took some years to get back into the right mindset. :-) Thanks for listening!

(On Spotify we are actually doing great in the USA - it is our second country in the stats.)
